Lurgan
Lurgan is a large town in County Armagh, part of the Craigavon borough, with a history deeply rooted in the linen industry boom of the 17th and 18th centuries. Its long, straight main street is a testament to its planned plantation origins. While the linen mills have mostly closed, the town retains a strong industrial and commercial character, with a busy town centre featuring the Rushmere Shopping Centre, one of the largest retail complexes in Northern Ireland. Lurgan Park is one of the town's greatest assets, a vast and beautiful Victorian park with a lake, playgrounds, and walking paths, hosting events throughout the year.
The town is situated on the southern shore of Lough Neagh, and the nearby Oxford Island National Nature Reserve offers stunning lakeside walks and is a haven for wildlife. Lurgan has a rich cultural life and a strong sense of community identity. Its flat landscape makes it ideal for cycling, and the surrounding area is dotted with the remnants of its industrial past. As a key part of the Craigavon urban area, Lurgan offers a blend of historical interest, green spaces, and modern retail convenience.
