Comber
Comber is a historic market town in County Down, situated at the northern end of Strangford Lough and renowned as the home of the famous Comber potato. The town has a strong industrial heritage, notably in linen and distilling, and was the birthplace of the pioneering engineer Harry Ferguson of tractor fame. The town square, with its distinctive yellow sandstone buildings and war memorial, forms the core of the community. Comber has evolved into a popular commuter town for Belfast, but it maintains a strong sense of its own identity and history.
The surrounding landscape is flat and fertile, ideal for the potato farming that made the town famous. Comber is an excellent base for exploring the natural wonders of Strangford Lough, a marine nature reserve of international importance teeming with birdlife. The town is also on the doorstep of Mount Stewart, a magnificent National Trust property with world-class gardens. With its convenient location, rich agricultural heritage, and proximity to both Belfast and incredible nature, Comber offers a solid and pleasant base in East Down.
