Bangor

Seaside town in County Down.

Bangor

Bangor is a major coastal town and one of Northern Ireland's most popular seaside resorts, located on the southern side of Belfast Lough in County Down. It boasts a superb natural harbour and a long maritime history, dating back to a famous 6th-century monastery. Today, the town is a vibrant mix of elegant Victorian architecture, modern marinas, and beautiful coastal paths. The bustling marina area is the heart of the town's activity, filled with yachts, restaurants, and bars, and is a gateway for sailing trips around the lough. The seafront and promenade are perfect for walking and cycling, offering stunning views across the water to the Antrim coast.

Beyond the waterfront, the town centre offers excellent shopping, including the flagship Bloomfield Shopping Centre, and a range of cafes and pubs. The nearby North Down Museum delves into the area's rich history, from the early Christian period to the Victorian holiday boom. With its combination of seaside charm, modern amenities, excellent transport links to Belfast, and beautiful surrounding countryside, Bangor is a dynamic and attractive destination that successfully blends its historic past with a contemporary lifestyle.
